Corns and Calluses

The formation of callus is a natural process the body uses to protect the skin from excess pressure. Unfortunately, when calluses become too thick they can become uncomfortable. Thick calluses can also risk splitting, which increases the risk of infection.

Excessive pressure can sometimes cause callused areas to develop into corns. Corns are small hardened plugs of callus that form in the upper layers of the skin and can be extremely painful if left untreated.

As an FHP, I am trained and qualified to treat corns and callus. Usually, these conditions are treated with sharp debridement, where a small blade is used to remove the hardened layers of skin or the nucleus of the corn. This provides instant relief from the pain associated with these conditions.

Once treated, I will also offer advice on the care of these areas, such as offloading pressure to help prevent these painful problems from reoccurring.
